Warriedar sets sights on Murchison copper, nickel targets

Warriedar Resources is set to launch a 5600m reverse-circulation (RC) drill campaign to target high-priority copper and nickel targets across its Fields Find project in Western Australia’s Murchison region.

Three programs of work have been approved at the site to cover target areas at the historic Warriedar copper mine and its Falcon prospect.

A surface rock-chip sampling program designed by management at the Warriedar copper mine returned significant results, with one sample recording 20.1 per cent copper and 63 grams per tonne silver. A second sample also produced impressive figures at 17.8 per cent copper and 157g/t silver. Gold assays for the samples are still pending.

Warriedar says the mine was a high-grade copper operation until 1969, with an average life-of-mine grade of 9.83 per cent copper. The site sits less than 40km south of 29Metals’ Golden Grove mine that boasts a current JORC resource of 61.4 million tonnes at 1.7 per cent copper, 4 per cent zinc, 0.7g/t gold and 28g/t silver.

Previous exploration by prior owners at the Falcon prospect showed solid results, with a 2m hit at 4.4 per cent nickel from 122m and a second hole showing a 1m intercept grading 1.3 per cent copper and 6.3g/t gold.

Historic drill results from the Sandpiper prospect recorded a 4m intercept going 36.9g/t gold from 104m, while another hole returned 1m at 2.5 per cent copper and 24.5g/t gold from 96m.

Warriedar affectionately refers to Fields Find as its “polymetallic enigma” due to the site containing elevated levels of nickel, copper and gold. The company kicked off exploration at the site in January when it launched an airborne electromagnetic (EM) survey to locate potential accumulations of massive sulphides. The initial results highlighted several targets for follow-up work.

A ground EM survey last month identified 10 priority targets, including the historic Warriedar copper mine and the Falcon prospect, with additional prospects expected to be drilled as part of a second-phase campaign.

Fields Find and the Golden Range project are close to other impressive operations. Capricorn Metals’ Mt Gibson gold project to the south has a mineral resource 2.75 million ounces, while Silver Lake Resources’ Deflector gold-copper project sits to the west.

The company’s WA holdings extend for more than 70km of strike from north to south and cover the central majority of the Yalgoo-Singleton and Warriedar Archean greenstone belts. It considers both projects to be prospective for significant massive sulphide deposits.

Warriedar has already seen significant recent success by adding its Mugs Luck prospect to four other gold discoveries this year at Golden Range and Fields Find. The market will be interested to see if it can also add notable copper and nickel results into the mix with its next drill campaign.
