Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has revealed a discovery of thick gold mineralisation trapped within a shear zone in a maiden drill campaign at its Kirgella Gift prospect, 140km east/north-east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.

Fast-tracked assays from maiden drilling at Kirgella Gift have turned over 38 metres at 1.86 grams per tonne gold from 73m, including a 6m pocket at 2.85g/t and 11m at 2.66g/t. A second drillhole intersected 35m at 1.71g/t gold from a shallower 43m, including a 12m hit at 2.11g/t gold. Assays on another 12m intersection reflected 1.71g/t.

The prospect is part of the company’s bigger Pinjin project, which straddles underexplored greenstone formations associated with the renowned Laverton greenstone belt.

KalGold’s acreage sits on a largely-underexplored Archaean-age greenstone belt within the prolific Laverton tectonic zone, a region of WA’s Yilgarn Craton that supports several gold mines boasting an aggregate 30 million ounces of gold. It also hosts the Laverton Greenstone belt.

KalGold’s Pinjin project is to the south of Hawthorn Resources’ Anglo Saxon gold mine and to the north of Ramelius Resources’ Rebecca gold project. Anglo Saxon boasts a probable ore reserve of 730 kilotonnes at 2.66g/t gold for 62,000 ounces, while Rebecca boasts an eye-watering 775,000 gold ounces, of which 550,000 are classified in the indicated category.

Management is now moving ahead with infill drilling to define the intersects it can probe within an area of land between the Kirgella Gift prospect and another prospect known as Providence. Both are part of Pinjin.

The Laverton Tectonic Zone … hosts many styles of deposits, some of which are within thick, mineralised shear zones that juxtapose contrasting rock types against one another. We regard these opening steps at Kirgella Gift as the first glimpse into a much larger gold system at Pinjin. We will combine our learnings at Kirgella Gift and Providence with our global experience to maximise our chance of making discoveries throughout the project area. Kalgoorlie Gold Mining managing director Matt Painter

Mr Painter also says mineralisation begins at a relatively shallow depth of 40m, where it is interpreted to remain wide open to the south. Additional mineralisation has already been detected at Providence and the company is optimistic that it reflects a continuous gold trend trapped underground between its two prospects.

Results revealed today also harmonise with those detected in historic drilling campaigns on the site, including one which returned a 33m thick section at 3.1g/t gold from 51m, not far below the 40m point sitting on Mr Painter’s radar.

The company’s latest assay results were for gold only, but additional samples have been sent to Perth where a more thorough analysis will be undertaken in a bid to wrangle clues about the nature, direction and continuity of mineralisation at Pinjin.

Established within a prime mining neighbourhood where companies seem to struggle to find anything but gold, KalGold’s Pinjin project is shaping up to be an exploration play not to ignore.
