Regener8 Resources has held a Sherlock Holmes-style magnifying glass to historical data to uncover a novel paleochannel model containing high-grade nickel and cobalt, in association with pyritic carbonaceous black siltstones and sandstones at its Hatlifter prospect in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
The occurrences have been found within a recent tenement application adjacent to the company’s Seven Sisters tenements at its East Ponton Future Metals project, 200km east of Kalgoorlie.
In air-core (AC) drillholes sunk by Dominion Mining in 2008, where that company was looking primarily for gold, Regener8 has found that one hole gave up an assay of 1.26 per cent nickel and 0.61 per cent cobalt. An adjacent hole showed anomalous nickel, cobalt, chromium and copper in a 1m bottom hole sample.
Tantalisingly, no other intervals above the outstanding assay or from nearby drillholes were interrogated with additional sampling and Regener8 believes that means significant upside remains.
Ancient carbonaceous paleochannels are widespread throughout the Albany Fraser Orogen and the Yilgarn Craton and its presence in the area with anomalous nickel-cobalt mineralisation is seen as most encouraging.
The ongoing review of the historical exploration undertaken within the East Ponton project is continuing to uncover exciting potential. With highly encouraging nickel and cobalt grades over only a 3m composite end of hole sample, and 17m of similar logged unit thickness above being completely untested, the Hatlifter prospect is quickly becoming an exciting and high priority target for Regener8 to further investigate. The company says further historical exploration within the East Sisters application at Hatlifter by Dominion and Quadrio Resources in 2009 and 2010 was focused on gold and tested several “favourable” structural positions.
Regener8’s resident sleuth has unearthed some mighty interesting clues with a forensic post-mortem model explaining the localisation of nickel and cobalt culprits. Now there is an anxious wait for the coroner to reveal his findings after further examination of Regener8’s historical revelation.
