Dynamic Metals says soil sampling has uncovered two new lithium anomalies, each over 1km in length and 300m to 600m wide at its Widgiemooltha project in WA’s goldfields as the company makes plans to get a drill bit into the new discovery.

The best of the soil samples assayed at 300 parts per million (ppm) lithium oxide and the areas of elevated lithium in soils are supported by a historic rock chip sample grading a solid 2172ppm lithium oxide.

The latest batch of samples are primarily from the Franks Far Southeast prospect, which is located in the south-eastern part of Dynamic’s Widgiemooltha project area about 550km east of Perth and 100km south of Kalgoorlie.

They follow on from soil sample assays released to the market in December last year which were taken from the Spargos East prospect, about 50km to the north of Franks Far Southeast. They defined an area of elevated lithium 600m long and 1km wide with a peak assay for 409ppm lithium oxide.

Dynamic says a total of 880 soil samples were taken in November last year across the Spargos East and Franks Far Southeast prospect targeting lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) type pegmatites associated with the contact between volcaniclastic and mafic-ultramafic units. In addition to the elevated lithium values, some samples returned supporting geochemistry of up to 492ppm rubidium, 57ppm tantalum and 64ppm caesium, suggesting LCT type pegmatites are the source of the lithium soil anomalies.

The Widgiemooltha area has emerged as a significant lithium belt, hosting numerous spodumene deposits. Notably, the Mt Marion, Dome Hill, Bald Hill, and Buldania projects all lie within 25km of Dynamic’s ground.

About 14km north of the Spargos East prospect the massive Mt Marion lithium mine and processing operation, owned by Mineral Resources in a 50 per cent joint venture with Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium, is pumping out 600,000 tonnes per year of 6 per cent lithium oxide concentrate. That huge operation is digging away at about 77.8 million tonnes of hard rock lithium grading 1.37 per cent lithium oxide.

Essential Metals’ Dome North lithium deposit has a mineral resource estimate of 11.2 million tonnes grading 1.16 per cent lithium oxide just 8km to the south-east of Dynamic’s Franks Far Southeast prospect. About 50kms to the east of Dynamic’s ground is Mineral Resources’ Bald Hill mine which has an annual production of about 150,000 tonnes of 5.5 per cent lithium oxide concentrate from a 26.5 million tonne resource grading 1 per cent lithium oxide.

Liontown’s Buldania lithium project sits about 50km to the south of Franks Far Southeast and has a mineral resource estimate of 15 million tonnes grading 1 per cent lithium oxide.

By any measure this is lithium territory and a lot of those discoveries started with soil samples or rock chips bearing low levels of lithium.

Dynamic is planning to get back on the ground at Widgiemooltha soon to complete more soil sampling in a push to mature subsurface targets ahead of drilling this year.

First pass soil sampling results have shown Widgiemooltha holds significant lithium exploration potential in big, coherent soil anomalies that look like they are screaming to be drilled.
